Masking tapes: boring, ordinary, and predictable. Well, that’s what I thought of them until I discovered the world of ‘mt’. Mt is a Japanese brand (which stands for ‘masking tape’) has transformed boring rolls of tape used for packaging, into an outlet to express your creativity. The company produces washi tapes that come in hundreds of various colors and designs – polka dots, animals, hearts, and fruits.
What mt did for masking tapes, is what Cirque du Soleil did for the circus. Brilliant branding and a great product has meant that many girls like myself are willing to over-pay for something we’re not sure if we really need.
I paid about $3 for each roll, and I have about three of those rolls lying at home because they’re too ‘pretty’ to be used for wrapping presents.
Although I work in marketing, advertising gimmicks like these get me every time.
